Frequently Asked Questions

In general when people think of a diamond, the round shape that is seen everywhere comes to mind. They are the most common type of diamond cut, and due to their popularity, the standards used to grade Round diamonds are generally well known and easy to apply due to their uniformity.

Fancy Shaped diamonds on the other hand, are much harder to grade due to their irregular shapes. One thing you will be able to spot immediately is that a fancy shaped diamond will not be as brilliant as a round brilliant cut diamond. The shape of a properly cut round diamond is uniform all around and so the diamond takes in light from all sides and reflects a large proportion of the light that enters it. Once you diverge from the round shape, light “leaks” out of the diamond which leaves less light to be reflected back, reducing its brilliance. It is for this reason that examining the proportions of these stones should be done extremely carefully using the criteria below in order to maximize the amount of light that your fancy shaped diamond reflects back.

I love the prices that you have, but how can I trust a purchase over the internet with your company?

The majority of the diamonds that we sell are accompanied with a GIA www.gia.edu or AGS www.ags.org Certificate. These two grading laboratories are the most highly regarded diamond grading institutes in the world and are Not-for-Profit and independent from the diamond cutters. With these certified diamonds, the diamond can easily be verified by the plotting of the inclusions in the diamond, or through verification of the laser inscription in the case of certain stones. For your ultimate piece of mind we encourage you to have your ring/diamond independently appraised (We recommend that you NOT take it to a retail jeweler though, they are not independent and have a vested interest in downgrading our diamond(s) and promoting their own best interests). We stand by our products with a 30 day 100% money back guarantee and we have over 25 years of service behind our name, along with two Spectrum Awards©, with the last coming in 2002, http://www.agta.org/awards/2002-winners.html . Additional references (possibly from your area as well) will be gladly provided upon request. We are also member of the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and have a spotless record. You can look us up on the BBB under Davidson Designs.

How can you sell your products at these prices?

Because we deal in large volumes directly from diamond cutters around the world, there are no middlemen. We are a wholesaler with the capability to make any ring style of any difficulty and therefore do not have to purchase rings through other manufacturers which have designer premiums. We don’t have prime retail space and we don’t have locations in other cities around the world that have the associated staffing and overhead costs.

Are the prices for your settings the same whether I select a .50ct diamond or a 2.00ct diamond?

All of the rings that we create are made on a custom basis. Each ring is crafted in order to suit the diamond you select and the finger size. As you can imagine, each ring needs to be scaled up for larger diamonds in order to tailor the setting to the diamond. There is also more difficulty in setting a larger diamond and time required. Our ring pricing is based on sizes 4-7 and for diamonds from .30ct to .90ct. Please inquire for the specific ring that you are interested in for larger center stones.

Do you have a location where we can come by to take a look at designs and diamonds or diamond rings?

Yes & No. We are located in Vancouver, Canada and can see customers by appointment only. However, we currently do not have locations outside of Vancouver. If we did, our pricing would have to reflect the overhead costs & taxation issues of these other jurisdictions which would significantly add to the cost of your purchase.

How does purchasing an item from you on the internet work???

There are two methods depending on your situation.

  1. You know exactly what diamond you want, including the size, color, clarity,
shape, and the quality of the cut.
  2. You have a rough budget in mind that you are comfortable with and need advice
or options that would work within that budget.

In the case of number one, simply call, email, or purchase the right
diamond/diamond ring listed on our website and we will confirm the availability.
If that particular combination is not available, we will present you with a
couple of options that are the closest to it.

In the case of number two, simply call, email, or let us know through our website
roughly what it is that you are looking for along with your budget, and we will
help you work towards the right diamond ring setting.

We are equipped with phone, fax, email, photo, and scanning technology, which
allows us to bring you into the workshop while we create your piece. This makes
the process easier than having to make a trip to the store.

All of our products can be easily shipped to destinations across Canada, the USA,
and worldwide. To purchase an item, see one of our website pages to place contact
us via our toll-free number at 1-800-723-2841, or email us at
info@davidsdesigns.com.

I want to buy a ring, but one that is different than the ones that you have on your site, can you make it?

We show rings on the site that can be purchased, but if the style that you want isn’t shown, use our rings as an indicator of the type and quality of work that we can perform for you. If you have a particular style or design in mind, we have custom designers and master goldsmiths on staff to make one-of-a-kind hand made pieces that can be designed by us, or they can be almost any design that you have in mind.

What if something happens to the ring during shipment?

The ring is fully insured by us. After you have initiated a purchase with us, all that you have to do is sign for the ring when it gets to your door. Until that time, leave the rest up to us.

I don’t want a Round diamond but something of a different shape, what should I look for and do you sell them?

We are experts in fancy shaped diamonds, princess cuts, ovals, etc. Buying a diamond that is different from a round diamond can be very tricky since there are not set proportions that these diamonds should adhere to. We encourage you to call us at 1-800-723-2841 or email us if you wish to purchase a fancy shaped diamond so that we can work with you to make sure that the stone you receive satisfies your needs.

Do you sell your ring mounts separately?

NO. Why not ? Each ring is custom crafted by hand and is very time consuming. We are not a fly by night operation and we will not sacrifice quality in order to create the cheapest ring possible. An engagement ring is something that is worn every day and can be passed down from generation to generation (if made properly). We have devoted years to perfecting our craft and providing exceptional customer service to our clients and we wouldn’t be able to adhere to this level of quality and style by mass producing as many rings as possible.
